Men's Basketball advanced to the SCAC Tournament Final after a dominant victory over the fifth-seeded Centenary College Gents. Freddie Ricks III would explode off the bench for the Celts, torching the nets with 17 points, 12 of which would be scored in the first half.
St. Thomas would stifle the Centenary offense, only allowing 19 points in the opening half, limiting them to just 27 percent shooting from the floor. The Celts would light it up, connecting on 50 percent of their shots while assisting on over half of their makes. St. Thomas would also leave their mark on the glass, out rebounding the Gents 23-9.
The contest would open with both units trading buckets, maintaining a one-possession game for the first ten minutes of play. Ricks III and company would start to heat up as the frame's end neared. St. Thomas would head into the break outscoring Centenary 28-8, extending their lead to 22.
The Celts would hang onto this comfortable lead for the entire second half as they continued to shoot the ball at a high-clip. The bench of the St. Thomas would provide huge relief, outscoring Centenary's bench by 34 points. As a whole, the Celts would grab 29 more rebounds than the Gents, resulting in 19 second chance points.
Ricks III would end up leading the Celts in scoring with 17 points on seven-for-eleven shooting. Juan Hood would total 13 points while draining three triples and dishing out three assists. Adam Kanafani would provide a huge spark off the bench for St. Thomas, chipping in eight points and 14 rebounds.
St. Thomas advances to their second-straight SCAC Tournament Final. They will take on the winner between the second-seeded Trinity Tigers and the third-seeded Schreiner Mountaineers.
