HOUSTON, TX- University of St. Thomas junior forward Angel Johnson has been recognized nationally for his outstanding performances, earning a spot on the D3hoops.com Team of the Week for the week of January 6th. The honor, announced Tuesday by D3hoops.com, highlights the top performances at each of the five positions in NCAA Division III basketball.

Johnson played a pivotal role in helping the Celts extend their winning streak to five games while maintaining a perfect 2-0 record in league play. Over two games during the holiday break, Johnson averaged 24.0 points per game on 46.7% shooting, including an impressive 50.0% from three-point range. He also contributed 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.5 steals per game.

In the Celts' victory against Colorado College, Johnson delivered a career-high 30 points on 8-of-15 shooting, grabbed nine rebounds, dished out two assists, and recorded two steals. He followed up with another strong showing against UC Santa Cruz to secure the Celts' fifth consecutive win.

Currently, Johnson ranks among the SCAC leaders in several categories, including second in steals (28), third in assists (41), and sixth in free throws made (45). Earlier this week, he was also named SCAC Player of the Week.

Head Coach Anthony Medina praised Johnson's efforts, stating, "We could not be more proud of Angel and the national recognition he's received as a D3hoops.com Team of the Week honoree. Angel has always been a special player in our program, and his hard work and achievements as a player and leader are truly valued. It's wonderful to see him earn national recognition for his efforts."

Johnson becomes the second SCAC men's basketball player to earn D3hoops.com Team of the Week honors this season.
