The University of St. Thomas men's basketball team has been ranked second in the preseason coaches poll, receiving two first-place votes and finishing with 109 points. The Celts, alongside Trinity, have achieved an impressive milestone, posting three consecutive seasons with 20+ wins, a feat last accomplished by Birmingham-Southern College in the 2009-2012 seasons. St. Thomas was one of three SCAC men's teams to qualify for the NCAA postseason last year and looks to build on that success this season.
Senior guard Marion Williams, who averaged 9.1 points per game last season, and junior guard Angel Johnson, who contributed 5.4 points per game, are returning to the court for the Celts. These players are poised to make significant impacts as the team aims for further accomplishments this year.
Head Coach Anthony Medina expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming season,"As another season is finally here, I am excited about our group here at UST. It is a mix of guys who have been with the program for years, young players with bright futures, and transfers with much to contribute. Our team recognizes that we have potential but are humble enough to know their hard work will maximize that potential. As always, the goal is to find ways to improve every day!"
Stay tuned next week, November 9th, as we kick off homecoming and the first game of the season against Letourneau!
