Men's Basketball to Play in SCAC Championship Game

UST Men's Basketball has yet again made waves in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference in just their second year as members. After winning the regular season title last year and posting a program-best 24-2 record, the Celts have their eyes set on their second consecutive conference championship.

With going 7-3 in conference play and earning the No. 2 seed the SCAC Basketball Championships, UST has been rolling through its competition in the quarterfinals and semifinals. They will now face the top-seeded Tigers of Trinity University. These too have already seen each other twice this season which has resulted in a series split. To open the season, UST defeated Trinity 61-53, as Adam Kanafani made his mark posting 18 points and 14 rebounds. However, the very next day, Trinity was able to escape with a four-point victory in part to a 19-point performance by the SCAC Player of the Year, Kaleb Jenkins.

This heavyweight matchup headlines some of the conferences' best; with UST and Trinity both placing five players each on the All-SCAC team. The Celts also grabbed the SCAC Defensive Player of the Year in Cameron Gims and the SCAC Newcomer of the Year in Adam Kanafani. To cap off the accolades, this championship contest will feature both SCAC Co-Coaches of the Year with Anthony Medina and Jimmy Smith.

"The opportunity to play for an SCAC tournament title is an honor" Head Coach Anthony Medina said. "As a young team with a lot of pressure it would have been easy to give in to excuses. Instead, we have had a lot of new faces step up and do great things this year."
