
HOUSTON,TX- UST baseball team showcased their resilience and determination in a thrilling doubleheader against the University of Dallas, completing a three-game series with two hard-fought victories. Celts now sit 6-5 overall and 4-3 in conference.
Game 1: UST 6, UD 5
The first game was a back-and-forth battle that kept fans on the edge of their seats. The game remained scoreless until the 5th inning when Dallas broke the deadlock, taking a 1-0 lead. They extended their lead to 2-0 later in the inning, putting pressure on the Celts.
In the top of the 6th, Dallas added another run, making it 3-0. However, UST responded in the bottom of the inning when Ryan Ratajczak delivered a clutch single to center field, driving in two runs and cutting the deficit to 3-2.
Dallas struck again in the top of the 7th, pushing their lead to 4-2. But the Celts refused to back down. In the bottom of the 9th, with their backs against the wall, UST mounted a dramatic comeback. Gabe Garner singled to center field, driving in a run to make it 4-3. Moments later, Garner advanced to second base, and Dylan Lamb scored on, tying the game at 4-4. The comeback was capped off when Ryan Ratajczak reached first on an error by the third baseman, allowing Gabe Garner to score the winning run. UST walked it off with a 6-5 victory, sending their fans into a frenzy.
Game 2: UST 4, UD 3
The second game saw UST take an early lead and hold off a late rally by Dallas to secure the win. In the bottom of the 1st inning, Alex Trinh tripled to right field, driving in the first run of the game. Dillon McKee followed with a groundout to shortstop, bringing Trinh home to make it 2-0.
Dallas got on the board in the top of the 3rd, cutting the lead to 2-1. However, UST responded in the bottom of the inning with Alex Trinh doubling to left field, driving in another run and extending the lead to 3-1.
The Celts continued to build their lead in the 4th and 5th innings. Andrew Andersen singled to left field, driving in a run to make it 4-1, and Dylan Lamb added another RBI single in the 5th, pushing the score to 5-1.
Dallas fought back in the top of the 7th, scoring a run to make it 5-2. UST answered in the bottom of the inning when Gabe Garner reached first on an error by the pitcher, allowing Alex Trinh to score a run, extending the lead to 6-2.
Dallas made things interesting in the late innings, with a solo home run in the 8th and an RBI single in the 9th, cutting the lead to 6-4. However, UST's defense held strong, and the Celts secured the 6-4 victory to complete the doubleheader sweep.
