SAN ANTONIO – The toughest part of the University of St. Thomas baseball schedule continued to trouble the Celts as they fell 5-0 at Trinity to open a three-game series Friday.
Trinity (18-7, 9-1 SCAC), ranked 21st in the latest D3baseball.com Top 25 poll, scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Tigers a comfortable lead.
UST (11-17, 5-5 SCAC) dropped its sixth consecutive contest. The Celts current slide began with two losses at NAIA Our Lady of the Lake and continued last week with a three-game sweep at Texas Lutheran. TLU and Trinity are tied for first place in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Tristan Pitkin and Jacob Carriere collected UST's two hits in the game, with Carriere hitting a leadoff double in the eighth inning. Pitkin also walked twice in the contest.
Landon Murray took the loss on the mound for the Celts as he threw six innings and struck out six batters while scattering five hits. Joseph Chavana pitched a complete game for the Tigers.
The Celts and Tigers conclude their series Saturday with a doubleheader. First pitch in Saturday's opener is scheduled for 2 p.m.
