A slow start plagued UST Baseball, as a late-game offensive spark wasn't enough to defeat the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs.
The Celts quickly dug themselves into a hole, giving up six runs in the first four innings. In the top of third they had a shot to add some runs on the board, but the Bulldogs were able to get out of the inning with a clean slate, stranding two runners.
Trailing by seven as they entered into the top of the seventh, the Celts finally found the offense they were searching for. John Sebok would start things off with a lead-off double, followed by a Leo Galvan single to put runners on the corners. Freshman Parker Edwards would then clear the bases with a huge triple to right center. Edwards would soon advance home on a wild pitch and the Celts would cut the deficit to four runs.
After a one-two-three inning from Alex Schlosser, UST would load the bases in the top of the eighth. Leo Galvan's sacrifice fly would knock in Kyle Bearden as the Celts slowly chipped away at TLU's lead. Unfortunately for UST, they leave two runners on base and fail to capitalize on the innings strong start.
The Celts would enter the final frame trialing three and would never find their groove as the Bulldogs took game one, 7-4.
