Baseball fell in their midweek single game series to Mary Hardin Baylor. After a full nine innings, an offensive explosion from UMHB in the seventh inning led to an 8-0 non-conference loss.
It was a pretty quiet game to start as both teams struggled to score runs. In the first three innings though, the Celts threatened with five runners left on base as they attempted to score. However, the Crusader pitching would show clutch, picking up key outs with Celt runners in scoring position. Mary Hardin Baylor was first to strike on the scoreboard in their half of the third with an RBI double to make the score 1-0. From there, the Celts tried to keep it close, but a five hit seventh inning from led to seven Crusader runs as the gap extended. With the lead too large to come back from, the Celts ultimately fell 8-0.
Jacob Mead got the start for St. Thomas and was stellar in his five innings of work. Mead allowed just one run on one hit and struck out eight batters. In relief, Nick Alumai and Luke Johnson were both bright spots as they pitched shutout innings with a combined four strikeouts.
