Baseball dropped an extra-inning thriller to #1 Trinity University, 8-7. Kyle Bearden led the way for the Celts going three-for-five with 2 RBIs and an essential second inning home run.
The Celts wasted no time getting on the board, going up 2-0 in the bottom of the first after a 2-RBI single from Leo Galvan. The Tigers quickly reclaimed the lead after a four-run second inning, but the Celts responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the third. A two-run home run from Kyle Bearden and an RBI single from Caleb Edmonds would give the Celts a one-run lead on the number one team in the nation. As both teams scrapped for momentum, the Celts saw themselves down 7-5 heading into the bottom of the fourth. They would eventually tie the game up after tacking on one more run in the 5th and another in the 7th inning, in part to Noah Martinez and Jason Brown's RBI singles.
Luke Sebesta was dealing for the Celts, coming to the mound in the 5th inning, he would throw nine strikeouts and hold the Tigers runless through the 9th inning. Heading into extra-innings tied up at seven runs a piece, Sebesta would allow his only earned run of the game and the Celts went into the bottom of the inning trailing by a run. UST would load the bases but could not capitalize on the runners in scoring position. The Celts would drop a heart breaker to the top team in the country.
The Celts and Tigers will finish their series tomorrow with a doubleheader scheduled at 12:00 and 3:00.
