Baseball opened up its three-game series against Belhaven this Thursday night. A great balance of offense and defense propelled the Celts to a game-one victory.
St. Thomas was first to strike after Belhaven allowed a Dylan Lamb walk. Lamb then stole second and was brought home by a Cameron McClure single. Then after a quiet second inning from both teams, Kade Sanchez had a leadoff single in the third. After a quick steal, Jeffrey Williams brought him home with a sacrifice fly to make the score 2-0. Belhaven would add one in the sixth however it wasn't enough to keep pace with St. Thomas. The Celts added two as the score was now 4-1. Then a big eighth inning from the Blazers made the score 4-3, then with a bases-loaded jam, Kameron Craig entered the game and recorded the last out of the inning. Then with the ninth inning in sight, St. Thomas secured the 4-3 victory.
On the mound for the Celts was Chris Parsons. Parsons went 6.1 innings for St. Thomas and notched seven strike outs. On his sixth strikeout, he tabbed his 100th as a Celt.
