Edmonds, Desilets and Brown Headline Baseball Team Awards

Baseball concluded their first full season this spring after their 2020 campaign was cut short. The Celts posted a winning record (17-16) and landed five on the All-SCAC team. Caleb Edmonds was named the team's Most Valuable Player, Caleb Desilets earned the Scholar Student-Athlete award and Jason Brown took home the Celt Award.

Edmonds, a junior first baseman from Anahuac, Texas went on a tear this season hitting .364 with 40 hits and 33 RBIs. He led the Celts in home runs (5) and would rank top ten in the SCAC in batting average and on-base percentage (.474). Edmonds would be named All-SCAC Honorable Mention.

Caleb Desilets would take home Scholar Student-Athlete honors after his excellence in the classroom and on the bump. Desilets would post a cumulative 3.7 GPA, the highest amongst the program. He would make 13 appearances and record a 3-1 record for the season. The right handed pitcher would have the lowest ERA on staff and would strike out 19 batters.

Jason Brown would earn the Celt Award. This honor is given by each coach to a team member based on character, integrity, sportsmanship, and work ethic. Brown, who was named the Male Champions of Character Recipient had displayed leadership ever since he stepped on campus. His impressive resume doesn't end there, as the sophomore hit a remarkable .396 while driving in 23 runs. Brown would land in the conference's top five in batting average, on-base percentage (.512) and triples (3) and would receive Hitter of the Week honors after going six-for-eleven with 5 RBIs against Belhaven.

"When you're building a brand new program the biggest 'must have' are players who set the culture and are shining examples of what you envision your team to be for years to come" Head Coach Clayton VanderLaan said. "These three young men have not only been examples of what I want a man of UST Baseball to look like, but have set an incredibly high bar for current and future generations of Celt players."
