Men's Soccer Defeats Top Ranked Trinity 2-1

Men's Soccer Defeats Top Ranked Trinity 2-1

The University of St. Thomas Celts took care of business this Friday afternoon, defeating the SCAC top ranked Trinity Tigers 2-1 at AVEVA Stadium.

In a rematch of last season's conference final, the Celts and Tigers would face each other in Houston. St. Thomas striked first however as Ayomide Salako would come off the bench and immediately put one in the back of the net. This would give the Celts the 1-0 lead. The score held until the end of the first half as Rodrigo Lazo and his defense held Trinity to 0 points in the first half. In the second half, the Celts opened the scoring again as Daniel Castro hit a bar-down goal to put St. Thomas up 2-0. Trinity responded this time with their own goal to cut the deficit in half 2-1. This would be the end of scoring as the 2-1 advantage for St. Thomas was held until the match's end.

St. Thomas would not escape the Trinity unscathed, however. As four cautions would go against the Celts in this tough match.

Up next, the Celts will take on the Schreiner Mountaineers in their next SCAC matchup. Come out to AVEVA Stadium to support St. Thomas Men's Soccer!
