Men's Soccer defeats TLU 2-1

This hot Sunday afternoon at Houston Sports Park the University of St. Thomas Men's soccer team defeated the Texas Lutheran University Cowboys in an intense 2-1 win.

The Celts ended the first half with a 1-0 score. In the 30th minute, Dany Ramirez slotted one past the keeper from inside the penalty area, assisted by a layoff from Taty Aleman. Both teams defensively held strong in this half, with the Celts only allowing 3 shots from the Cowboys, none on goal. In return, the Bulldogs only allowed 7 shots from the Celts, 3 on goal. Both sides saw an aggressive first half, with the Cowboys compiling 8 team fouls, and the Celts led with 10 team fouls.

The second half saw more intensity from both sides, and in the 57th minute Taty Aleman calmly placed a goal in the bottom right corner, assisted by Ayomide Salako. The Bulldogs responded quickly, finally getting on the scoreboard in the 68th minute with a shot from #17. As the intensity lifted, so did the challenges and shots for each side. We saw a significant amount of chances from both sides, but the score line did not change. The final shots taken by the Bulldogs were seven, three on goal. The Bulldogs finished the match with 16 team fouls and four cautions. The Celts finished the match with 10 total shots, four on goal. The Celts also finished the match with team fouls and four cautions.

"We had a great mentality in this game," Coach Ian Clerihew added. "I think we're getting better at doing that consistently, especially against a very tough team."

Next up, the Celts will take on Colorado College away, on Friday, September 30th at 2 p.m.
