HOUSTON -- St. Thomas truly came together on Saturday, May 3, for its Annual Scholarship Gala—a vibrant evening of community, celebration, and philanthropy held at the Hilton Americas-Houston. Inspired by the theme "Come Together," this year's event took guests on a whimsical journey through Beatles nostalgia while raising nearly $1.5 million for The St. Thomas Fund, which provides vital scholarships for UST students
Honoring the legacy of Mrs. Raye G. White—longtime benefactor, life director, and Executive Vice President of Fayez Sarofim & Co.—the evening celebrated the multi-generational commitment of families like the Whites and McGreevys. With His Eminence Daniel Cardinal DiNardo and Archbishop Joe S. Vásquez serving as Honorary Chairs, the gala radiated both faith and joy, highlighting the spirit of unity that defines the UST community.
The evening began with a standing-room-only Mass, followed by a black-and-white cocktail hour inspired by Abbey Road. Guests then entered a color-splashed ballroom filled with vibrant lighting, custom décor, and a sense of magic that carried through the night. A moving tribute video, inspiring student stories from Mr. and Ms. UST, and a high-energy performance by RAIN: A Tribute to the Beatles created a night full of heart, purpose, and celebration.
Interim President Fr. Dempsey Rosales Acosta captured the spirit of the event, calling UST "the garden of God," where the collective support of donors and friends helps students grow and thrive.
With a live auction, and late-night dancing, the gala was both a meaningful and memorable night. Most importantly, it reinforced the power of a transformative education—and what's possible when a community comes together for the next generation of Celts.
