Houston, Texas—The University of St. Thomas women's soccer team has faced a tough stretch of opponents. Finally returning home for a match, the Celts pushed league-leading Trinity to their limits. St. Thomas battled from the start but fell short, eventually losing 1-0 and dropping to 6-6-2 overall and 2-5 in SCAC action.
From kickoff to the final whistle, it was a defensive contest. Both teams limited the other side's chances and finished the first 45 minutes 0-0. The Tigers only managed four shots in the first half but allowed the hosts none.
The second half looked like it would be a carbon copy of the first, but Trinity Midfielder Bri Werner broke through and deposited the match's only goal. The Celts did not stop competing and pushed forward late, watching a late shot sail just over the crossbar in the 85th minute.
