St. Thomas Earns Draw

St. Thomas Earns Draw

On a beautiful Sunday evening in the city of Houston, the University of St. Thomas Women's soccer team earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw vs. Howard Payne University. In their only home match not played at Sabercats Stadium, the Celts hosted the Yellowjackets on San Jacinto College's historic soccer pitch. The tie puts UST at 2-1-1 for the season.

The first half showcased the Celts' determination as they battled Howard Payne throughout but found themselves still deadlocked at 0-0. Despite persistent efforts and pressure, UST was not able to break through the Yellow jackets defense until shortly after the break.

Immediately in the second half, UST turned up the pressure and scored early. It was the 48th minute that proved to be the magical moment when sophomore Ashley Pugne snuck one past the Keeper, putting the Celts up 1-0. The Celts seized the momentum and applied pressure on the visitors for the next 20 minutes before HPU regained composure and responded with a goal of their own from Madelynn Harry in the 70th minute, leveling the match at 1-1. A tired home side held together for the last 20 minutes of the match to earn the draw.

Match Notes

· It was Ashley Pugne's first goal of the season.
