The St Thomas women's soccer team was selected 6th in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) preseason coaches' poll released Tuesday afternoon.
With three additional teams added to the SCAC, the preseason poll selected Trinity as the favorite with 121; the Tigers have dominated conference play in recent years. Texas Lutheran was chosen 2nd with 102 points. Southwestern, last season's conference tournament runner-up, garnered 99 points and was picked third. Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference newcomers McMurry and Concordia were chosen fourth and fifth, respectively. The Celts sixth place prediction rounded out the top half of the pre-season rankings.
St. Thomas finished 5th in the SCAC in 2023 and returns eight seniors. The Celts are gearing up to make a run at the conference tournament with a couple of preseason exhibition matches this weekend. They host Houstonians FC on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at SaberCats Stadium and Blinn College on Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
Under the leadership of second-year Head Coach Nataki Stewart, St. Thomas will officially kick off their 2024 season in Jackson, MS. The Celts will play back-to-back matches against Belhaven and Millsaps.
