Celts Edged by Dallas 1-0

Celts Edged by Dallas 1-0

The University of St. Thomas Celts faced the Dallas University Crusaders this Friday night under the lights at Houston Sports Park, losing in a tough 1-0 battle.

During the first half, the Celts came out strong, taking a total of 8 shots, 2 on goal. The Celts fought hard, creating a handful of promising attacks but were unable to get on the board. The Celts' defense managed to maintain a clean sheet as well, holding their ground strong. Celt's goalkeeper Escontrias made just two comfortable saves to keep the crusaders off the scoreboard.

The second half saw an equal amount of intensity from both sides, and the Celts came out guns blazing. The fast-paced second half gave the Celts 6 more shots, 2 on goal. The Celts teased the crowd with a few nail-biting shots on goal, but were unable to get one past the keeper. Late in the match the Crusaders picked up the intensity and created a few chances of their own, but couldn't get past the solid defense consisting of goalkeeper Sophia Escontrias, and an interchanging backline of Neveah Martinez, Paola Colon, Mackenzie Stewart, Riley Keck, and Alyssa Loeblein until the final minutes of the match when the Crusaders were able to score a quick counter attack in the 87th minute.

The Celts face Austin College up next at Houston Sports Park at 3:30pm on Sunday.
