MARSHALL, TX – After opening NCAA Regional play with a win, UST Softball team took on a powerful No. 1 East Texas Baptist squad in the winner's bracket. Despite their early fight, the Celts ultimately dropped the contest 13-3 at Taylor Field on the campus of East Texas Baptist University.
Jaelyn Simmons got UST on the board in the first inning, scoring on a wild pitch to even the game at 1-1. However, the Tigers responded quickly in the second with four runs, including a two-RBI single to take a 5-1 lead.
Simmons continued to lead offensively in the fifth with a single up the middle that scored Gabby Davila, making it 6-2. But ETBU sealed the game with a dominant seven-run seventh inning.
Chloe Bennett added one final run in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single, but the Celts came up short.

St. Thomas moves to the elimination bracket and will face the winner of Marymount and Belhaven on Friday, May 16 at 4 p.m. as they continue their NCAA tournament run in Marshall, Texas.
