Celts Tame No. 8 Bulldogs

SEGUIN, Texas – St. Thomas Softball team made a statement on Friday night, defeating No. 8 Texas Lutheran 3-1 at Ed Kruse Stadium. With the victory, the Celts improve to 11-5 overall and 10-2 in SCAC play, while also snapping Texas Lutheran's 16-game season-opening win streak.

Texas Lutheran struck first, bringing home a run in the bottom of the first inning. However, the Celts quickly responded in the top of the second, when Delayne Moreno delivered a fly to center field, scoring Genesis Mares and tying the game at 1-1.

Both teams remained locked in a defensive battle until the top of the fifth, when the Celts capitalized on an opportunity. Savana Henken singled to the pitcher, and on a throwing error, Maegan Anderson and Chloe Bennett came around to score, giving St. Thomas a 3-1 lead.

The Bulldogs made a late push in the bottom of the seventh, loading the bases with one out. However, the Celts' defense held strong, shutting the door and securing the 3-1 upset victory over the nationally ranked Bulldogs.
