HOUSTON, TX- After a dominating win vs Concordia last night,  UST Softball team wrapped up its series against Concordia University with a doubleheader loss, moving to 7-5 overall and 6-2 in conference play.

Game 1: Concordia 9, St. Thomas 2

Concordia came out strong in the opener, putting up three runs in the first inning to take an early lead. The Celts struggled to respond as the Tornadoes held them scoreless through three innings.

The Tornadoes extended their lead to 4-0 in the top of the third. St. Thomas finally broke through in the bottom of the fifth when Ana Zazoya doubled to center field, driving in Rebecca Archibald and Delayne Moreno to cut the deficit to 4-2.

Despite the momentum shift, the Celts were unable to add more runs. Concordia sealed the win with a five-run seventh inning, closing out a 9-2 victory.

Game 2: Concordia 4, St. Thomas 3

Determined to bounce back, the Celts came out swinging in Game 2. In the bottom of the first, Jaelyn Simmons doubled to left field, scoring Archibald. Moments later, Zazoya doubled to center, bringing in Simmons to give St. Thomas a 2-0 lead.

Concordia answered in the second inning with a run, then tied the game at 2-2 in the third. The Celts reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the third when Samantha Crumrin tripled to center field, scoring Maegan Anderson to make it 3-2.

Both teams remained scoreless through the fourth and fifth innings. However, the Tornadoes took advantage of a key scoring opportunity in the top of the sixth, bringing in two runs to take a 4-3 lead. The Celts fought hard but were unable to rally in the final innings, dropping the second game by a one-run margin.

Up Next

The Celts will hit the road to face the University of Dallas in Irving. The series begins with a single game on March 7 at 6 PM, followed by a doubleheader on March 8 at 12 PM and 2 PM.
