HOUSTON, TX - After opening the season with a home doubleheader, the St. Thomas Softball team was back in action for another two-game battle against the University of Texas at Dallas. The Celts fought hard throughout both games, ultimately splitting the series with the Comets. With the win in Game 2, St. Thomas now holds a 1-3 overall record.

Game 1: UTD 3, UST 1

The game started as a defensive battle, with both teams remaining scoreless through the first three innings. In the bottom of the fourth, the Celts broke through when Addison Bean sent a hit to center field, bringing in Chloe Bennett to take a 1-0 lead.

The Celts' defense held strong, keeping the Comets off the board in the fifth and sixth innings. However, in the top of the seventh, UTD found momentum, tying the game at 1-1 with a hit to center field. With the bases loaded, the Comets capitalized on another scoring opportunity to bring in two more runs, taking a 3-1 lead.

Despite a strong effort to rally in the bottom of the seventh, the Celts were unable to even the score, giving the Comets the victory in Game 1.

Game 2: UST 3, UTD 2

Looking to bounce back, the Celts took the field with energy in Game 2. The Comets struck first, bringing in a quick run in the top of the first inning to go up 1-0. The Celts answered immediately in the bottom of the inning when Rebecca Archibald crossed home plate to tie the game at 1-1.

From there, both teams locked in defensively, keeping each other off the scoreboard through five innings. The Celts finally broke the tie in the bottom of the sixth when Lindsey Gonzalez delivered a clutch double to center field, bringing in Maegan Anderson to take a 2-1 lead. Shortly after, Chloe Bennett grounded out but allowed Genesis Mares to score, extending the lead to 3-1.
