HOUSTON – Softball team celebrated Senior Night in a big way, sweeping Trinity University to close the regular season. The Celts took Game One 8-3 and followed with a 3-1 victory in Game Two. With the wins, UST moves to 29-10 overall and 25-4 in the Conference.
Game 1 UST 8, TU 3
The Celts got on the board first in the second inning when Lindsey Gonzalez drove in Savana Henken with a single to left field. Trinity responded in the third with a three-run inning to briefly take the lead.
UST answered right back in the fifth. Jaelyn Simmons knocked an RBI single to pull within one, and Zoe Acosta delivered a huge bases-clearing double to give St. Thomas a 5-3 lead. The Celts kept the pressure on in the sixth as Olivia Sanchez singled home two more runs, and Chloe Bennett added another RBI to cap the scoring at 8-3.
Game 2 UST 3, TU 1
In the series finale, UST wasted no time getting ahead. Simmons doubled to bring home Rebecca Archibald in the first inning, then scored herself on a Bennett single to make it 2-0.
Trinity managed to scratch across a run in the third, but the Celts responded again in the sixth. Izabella Hernandez came through with an RBI single to score Gonzalez and give UST some breathing room. Behind strong defense and steady pitching, the Celts held on for a 3-1 win and the sweep.

St. Thomas now shifts their focus to the SCAC Championship Tournament, set for May 2-4 in Georgetown, Texas. The Celts enter the tournament as the No. 2 seed.
