
GEORGETOWN, Texas – The University of St. Thomas (TX) softball team opened their weekend series at Southwestern with a statement win, blanking the Pirates 5-0 in Friday's contest. With the victory, the Celts improve to 21-10 overall and 17-4 in conference.
Junior catcher Chloe Bennett led the offensive charge once again. In the third inning, she ripped a two-RBI single to left center, bringing home Jaelyn Simmons and Rebecca Archibald to give UST an early 2-0 lead. Bennett added to her stellar day at the plate with a solo home run in the fifth inning, her fourth homer of the season, pushing the lead to 3-0.
In the sixth, the Celts capitalized on a Southwestern error, allowing Gabby Davila to score and Archibald to advance to third. Simmons then brought Archibald home with a groundout to short, sealing the 5-0 shutout.
