Softball Picks Up 20th Win of the Season in Sweep over Austin College

UST Softball earned the series sweep over Austin College with a two convincing wins on Sunday.

Game One: UST-11  AC-3

A five-run explosion in the bottom of the second would crush all hope for Austin College in the first game of the doubleheader. A solo home run by Kayleigh Deakle would open up the Celts' scoring, followed by RBIs from Emily Friesenhahn, Shae Montemayor, Emma Garrett and Mallarie Munson.

The Celts would post a 9-0 lead after another offensive clinic in the third inning. Garrett and Friesenhahn would record their second RBIs of the contest. Mia Terry would drive in Deakle with her RBI single as UST cruised to yet another five-inning run-rule victory.

Zoe Jeffiers (3-3) and Marissa Vasquez would work the circle for the Celts and would only allow four hits in their five innings combined.

Emily Friesenhahn would go two-for-three while driving in three runs and plating three herself. Mia Terry, Shae Montemayor and Emma Garrett would all record two RBIs for the contest. Kayleigh Deakle secured her first-collegiate home run with her second inning blast to left field.

Game Two: UST-7  AC-3

Errors would plague the Celts in the first inning as the Lady Kangaroos were able to capitalize by plating the first run of the game. However, it wouldn't take long for UST to even the score as Mia Terry would score from third after a broken play by Austin College.

The 'Roos would regain the lead the very next inning and would hold this advantage until the fourth inning. After knotting the score up on a wild pitch with the bases load, Mia Terry would drive in Ariana Brown and Grace Coffelt with her double to right center.

After tacking on two more runs in the sixth frame, Austin College failed to keep pace with the Celts' offense as UST would claim their 20th victory of the season.

Lindsey Longuet picked up her 12th win of the season pitching a complete game, five-hitter while striking out five Lady Kangaroos.

The Celts have won eight of their last nine games and are currently three games back from Texas Lutheran. UST will face TLU next weekend in a huge three-game series to close out their inaugural season.
