Celts Take Series Opener at Southwestern

Celts Take Series Opener at Southwestern

UST Softball took game one of their series with Southwestern after a high-scoring affair leaned towards the Celts.

After an explosive first inning where Shae Montemayor, Emma Garrett and Grace Coffelt all recorded RBIs, the Pirates would answer with their own offensive clinic, dropping six runs in the bottom half of the first.

With the Celts down to their last out in the second inning, Emma Garrett would deliver with a huge equalizing three-run blast to knot the score up at six. Trailing 7-6 in the fifth inning, Sam Wendel's RBI single would drive in Garrett to even things up.

The Celts bats would stay hot heading into the next inning where they would plate a pair of runs.  Shae Montemayor would record her second and third RBIs of the game with her double to left center.

With Southwestern down to their final out, they had runners on the corners and the game-winning run at the plate. Marissa Vasquez and UST's defense would prevail and take the series opener, 9-7

Emma Garrett would go two-for-four with a game-high four RBIs, while plating two runs herself. Shae Montemayor would also go two-for-four, recording three RBIs. Mia Terry would continue her hot-streak going three-for-four with a stolen base.

The Celts advance to 11-2 in SCAC play and will finish their series with Southwestern tomorrow at 12:00 & 2:00
