Celts Split ASC Doubleheader

Celts Split ASC Doubleheader

Game One: UST-7 CTX-5

UST Softball found themselves down early to Concordia after a first inning home run would spark their offense. As the Tornados would plate two more runs the Celts were faced with a 3-0 deficit heading into the fourth.

Grace Coffelt would ignite the Celts with an RBI single to get them on the board. After Lindsey Longuet tossed a scoreless fourth inning, UST was able to capitalize in the fifth. Mallarie Munson's sacrifice fly would knock in Mia Terry to bring the game within one. Brenna Ruether would drive in the equalizing run with an RBI single to knot things up at three a piece. The very next inning, Mia Terry's RBI double would break the tie, giving the Celts the 4-3 advantage.

After Concordia answered with a run of their own, the game was all tied up at four, entering the last inning of play. A leadoff solo home run by Emma Garrett would thrust the Celts into the lead and they would never look back. Later that inning, Kayleigh Deakle and Ariana Brown would drive in runs to build onto UST's lead. Longuet would ice the game after escaping a bases loaded jam by the Tornados.

Mia Terry led the way going a perfect four-for-four with one double, while driving in one run. Ariana Brown was efficient from the plate, going three-for-four with one stolen base. Lindsey Longuet picked up her second consecutive win, tossing a complete with four strikeouts.

Game Two: UST-3 HPU-12

The Celts yet again had to play catch-up as they allowed Howard Payne to jump out to a three-run lead in the top of the first. After three straight scoreless innings, UST was able to spark their offense with an equalizing three-run fourth inning. With the bases loaded, Grace Coffelt was hit by a pitch to bring in the Celts' first run. RBIs from Emily Friesenhahn and Emma Burris would knot the game up heading into the fifth inning.

An explosive six-run sixth inning from the Yellow Jackets pushed the contest out of reach for UST. Howard Payne would take this game 12-3.

UST Softball will return to action March 20th in Shreveport, Louisiana as they resume conference place with Centenary College.
