Softball Splits a Pair of Regional Matchups

Game One: UST-11 HSU-4

 

The Celts started off hot as the first five batters all reached base with ease. Shae Montemayor's RBI single would drive Mia Terry in to kick off UST's scoring affair. Brenna Ruether would bust things open with a grand slam to deep center to give the Celts the 5-0 advantage.

 

UST wouldn't stop their as they continued to pour it on the Cowgirls. The very next inning Mallarie Munson would deliver with a 2 RBI triple. Munson would then be drove in by a Grace Coffelt double to push the score to 8-3.  

 

Every time HSU appeared to have some momentum, the Celts stifling defense would squash the Cowgirls' hope. UST would strand eleven runners on base to lock in their comfortable lead throughout the contest. They would continue to own the plate recording 19 hits which resulted in an 11-4 victory.

 

Lindsey Longuet picked up the win as she pitched a complete game while striking out nine Cowgirls. Shae Montemayor would go a perfect four-for-four on the game and would record one RBI. Mallarie Munson went three-for-five, while knocking in three runs and scoring two herself. Brenna Ruether would on have one at bat but would still lead the Celts in RBIs in part to her grand slam in the top of the first.

 

 

 

Game Two: UST-5 McM-8

 

UST yet again had a quick start as they jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead over the War Hawks in the first inning. Mallarie Munson's line drive down the left field line and Brenna Ruether's sacrifice fly plated the first two runs of the game. However, McMurry wouldn't go away that easy as they answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the second.

 

The Celts would respond in the third inning with yet another Munson RBI single to give UST the slight advantage. McMurry would storm back with back-to-back home runs, which would find the Celts trailing 5-3 heading into the sixth inning.  

 

The War Hawks would prove to be too much down the stretch, building onto their lead to down the Celts, 8-5.

 

Mallarie Munson would led the way for the Celts going three-for-four with 2 RBIs. Shae Montemayor would also go three-for-four and plate three runs. Emma Garrett would g two-for-three with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

 

The Celts will be back in action tomorrow as they take on Concordia and Howard Payne University.
