Women's Cross Country Finished 3rd at SCAC Championships

The St. Thomas Women's Cross Country team competed Saturday morning at the SCAC Championship Meet in Seguin, Texas. The women's championships consisted of 6 teams from across the conference, and the Celts secured strong enough times to finish third in the conference in their last conference meet of the season.

Senior Sophia Sanchez led the Celts with a final time of 24:42.95, good for a 15th-place finish among scored runners. Senior Victoria Ramirez was the next Celt to finish, posting a time of 25:13.47 and coming in 16th place among scored runners. The Celts stayed closely bunched together as they pushed through the end of the race, as freshmen Alejandra Ramon and Ashlee Garcia finished 18th and 19th, respectively. Ramon recorded a final time of 25:47.69, and Garcia crossed the finish line soon after with a time of 25:55.91. St. Thomas rounded out their scoring with a 22nd-place finish from freshman Kianna Stamps, as she finished Saturday's race with a time of 26:34.93. Senior Samatha Hernandez and junior Elizabeth Stepaniak also competed for the Celts in team competition, finishing with unscored times of 26:50.20 and 26:58.62, respectively.

The Celts' scores secured them a top-three finish in the conference ahead of SCAC opponents Texas Lutheran, Southwestern, and Dallas.

Saturday wraps up the conference portion of the season for Women's Cross Country. Now they look forward to the NCAA West Regional on November 11th!
