Celts aim for their 4th Conference Title

HOUSTON, Texas – The University of St. Thomas men's soccer team, three-time defending champions of the SCAC tournament, secured the fourth and final seed for the 2024 conference tournament after a decisive 4-1 victory over Austin College on Sunday. The Celts, who concluded the regular season with a 10-5-2 overall record and a 6-3-2 mark in conference play, demonstrated resilience by overcoming a 1-0 deficit to tie the match just before halftime and scoring three goals in the last 13 minutes to seal the win. St. Thomas aims to make history by becoming the first program to win four consecutive SCAC tournament titles since Trinity's record-setting seven-title streak, which ended in 2018.

The SCAC Men's Soccer Tournament will kick off on Friday, November 8, at SaberCats Stadium in Houston, which will also host the women's tournament. The Celts will face the top-seeded Colorado College at 5 p.m. CT in the opening semifinal. The second semifinal match will see No. 2 Trinity University take on No. 3 Southwestern University at 8:00 p.m. CT. The championship match is set for Sunday at 2 p.m. CT.

Colorado College (15-1-3 overall), co-champions of the regular season, earned the top seed after a stellar defensive record, allowing just two goals in conference play. This tiebreaker was crucial as they finished with an identical 10-0-1 record and 31 points alongside Trinity. The Tigers enter the tournament ranked seventh nationally and are making their 14th consecutive SCAC postseason appearance.

Trinity University (15-0-3 overall) holds the second seed and is undefeated in regular season play for the third time in five years. Boasting a conference-best seven tournament titles, Trinity seeks its first championship since 2018.

Southwestern University (11-2-4 overall) earned the third seed after a dramatic comeback win over McMurry University, scoring twice in the last five minutes of the match to secure their spot. The Pirates aim to reach the final for the first time since 2018.

The SCAC Men's Soccer Tournament champion will receive an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III National Championship, set to begin the following weekend.
