Celts’ fall to #7 Colorado College

Celts? fall to #7 Colorado College

The St. Thomas men's soccer team kicked off conference play with a trip to Colorado Springs to face the #7 Nationally Ranked and Defending SCAC Regular Season Champion Colorado College on Saturday evening. The Celts battled the Tigers throughout the full 90 but never seemed to settle into the match, eventually losing 1-0. The loss puts St. Thomas at 4-3 overall and 0-1 in SCAC action.

Grinding through the toughest travel portion of their season, the added opponent of elevation did not make things any easier for UST. Although Colorado outshot the Celts 24-7, UST's 3 Shots on Goal almost matched the Tigers' 4 SOG. While CC seemed to control possession in the first 45 minutes, they could not break through, and the teams headed to the locker room at 0-0. The second half mirrored the first until Zeke Lubin ended the deadlock and put in the game's only goal. Despite the Celts' best efforts, they struggled to gain rhythm and never seriously threatened to level the match.

Match Notes

· Before last night's match, St. Thomas was the last SCAC opponent to defeat Colorado College when they put the Tigers out of the 2024 SCAC Tournament in the Conference Semifinals.

· It was the second time UST had been shut out this year, matching last season's total number of matches without a goal.

· It was Cristo Gayaso's second straight start in goal.
