The University of St. Thomas won their first match of the 2024 soccer season with a final score of 1-0. On a rainy and dark night at their home Pitch, it was both the home and season opener against crosstown NAIA foe North American University.
The Celts came out strong, applying pressure early in the match. In the 5th min, sophomore Tony Castro scored and was assisted by his brother, senior Daniel Castro. The goal put the Celts up 1-0 and proved to be the final result and game-winner. St. Thomas continued to control the game, but North American fought throughout and remained determined to level the match. In the 54th minute, North America had their best chance with an on-target shot, but the Celt's steady Keeper, Gustavo Otero, made a crucial save to maintain the lead and ultimately secure the win.
