Houston, Texas – With 11 seniors on the roster, the University of St. Thomas men's soccer team needed much time to recognize and thank this year's senior class. After a lengthy ceremony for some of the most decorated student-athletes in UST Athletics' history, the Celts were ready to play and delivered a dominating performance. A 4-0 win over the University of Dallas at SaberCats Stadium was a little deceiving as the Celts scored all 4 goals in the first half, ending any doubt about the outcome. The win improves UST's record to 9-5-2 overall and 5-3-2 in the conference.
St. Thomas came out strong, showcasing an impressive offensive display and scoring all four goals in the first half. The scoring spree began with Aldo Hernandez finding the back of the net in the 15th minute. Ian Alvarez and Justin Burke assisted him. Moments later, Tony Castro added to the lead with a goal in the 17th minute off another assist from Senior Captain Alvarez. UST's all-time leading goal scorer, Daniel Castro, celebrated his memorable night with 2 first-half goals, continuing the Celts' momentum. Castro struck first in the 30th minute when fellow senior Diego Lazo set him up for a fine finish. Just over 10 minutes later, Castro scored again, this time assisted by Leonardo Herrera, giving the Celts a comfortable 4-0 lead going into halftime.
Three goalkeepers, Gustavo Otero, Cristo Gayoso, and Paulo Valente, all seniors, combined for a clean sheet. The Crusaders were held in check throughout the contest, only managing one shot on goal all evening.
