Castro Earns SCAC Player of the Week

Daniel Castro, a senior midfielder from Katy, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for his outstanding performances during the week of September 30th to October 6th. Castro's remarkable play helped lead the University of St. Thomas to key victories, as he scored a league-best five goals over three matches.

Castro scored a league-best five goals last week, including a pair of multigoal efforts in wins over Ozarks at home and Concordia on the road. Casto opened the week with a brace in a 6-1 win over the Eagles, then scored the Celts lone goal in a 2-1 loss at McMurry before recording his second brace of the week in a 3-1 win over the Tornados. He has now scored in four straight fixtures and five of his last six to bring his yearly goal total to nine, tied for the second most in the SCAC.

Head coach Ernesto Ramirez praised Castro's contributions, saying, "It's a pleasure to have a player like Daniel on our team. He is a fantastic and unpredictable footballer who also understands his role on the team. I'm happy for him and for the team because it takes everyone's efforts to get him in the best position to succeed."

With Castro in top form, the Celts will look to build on their momentum as they push through the season.
