Hultsch Earns CoSIDA Academic All-America Honors

Tom Hultsch, a senior defender from Luneburg, Germany has been named to the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-American team. Hultsch picked up second team Academic All-American honors.

This honor has been awarded by the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA) to the most accomplished student-athletes for academic and athletic achievement each year since 1952. As the longest-running and most prestigious academic and athletic award, over 20,000 student-athletes are nominated every year. Hultsch joins elite company as only 50 Academic All-American selections are made for each sport. All nominees must obtain a 3.30 GPA or higher and be a starter or an important reserve in their respected sport.

Hultsch, who just wrapped up an illustrious collegiate career, excelled on the pitch and in the classroom. He started every game in his career and was a three-year team captain. In 2019-20, Hultsch anchored a defense that had the lowest goals against average (0.88) in the entire Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. That same season, he was the SCAC Elite 19 recipient and was tabbed First Team All-Conference. In 2020-21, he helped lead the Celts to the SCAC Championship game and was a part of a defense that led the conference in shutouts. In addition to picking up Defensive Player of the Week honors, he was yet again a First Team All-SCAC selection and finished second in voting for the SCAC Defensive Player of the Year.

Hultsch graduated with a double major in Economics and Finance with a minor in Data Analytics. During his four years as a Celt, he had an astounding 3.99 GPA. Hultsch has also accepted a full-time position with Ernst & Young.

"It is an unbelievable feeling and honor to receive an award at the national level and something that I would have never expected, which makes me very proud" said Hultsch. "At the same time, I'm extremely grateful for my coaches, teammates and family who have supported me during my time at UST. This would not have been possible without them."
