Men's Soccer Announces Team Awards

Men's Soccer posted a 5-2-5 record and constructed a deep postseason run, which landed them in the SCAC Championship match. Tom Hultsch was named the team's Most Valuable Player & Scholar Student-Athlete, Felipe Marques was tabbed the Most Improved Player, Hugo Godinez earned the Celt Award and Ian Alvarez earned the Golden Boot for UST. 

Hultsch, a senior from Luneburg, Germany, will add team MVP to his already impressive resume. He has started all 61 games in his career for the Celts and has been a captain for three consecutive years. Hultsch anchored a defense that led the SCAC in shutouts this season and earned First Team All-SCAC honors. A leader on the pitch and in the classroom as he will be graduating with a double major in economics and finance with a minor in data analytics while posting a cumulative 3.98 GPA.

Felipe Marques, a senior defender from Sao Paulo, Brazil was named the Most Improved Player after starting every game for UST. Marques was an integral part of the Celts defense, which ranked amongst the best in the SCAC. 

Hugo Godinez, a senior midfielder from Houston, Texas earned the Celt Award. This honor is given by each coach to a team member based on character, integrity, sportsmanship, and work ethic. Godinez will graduate with an engineering physics degree and posted a 3.46 GPA. 

"Hugo is a tenacious defensive midfielder who can be counted on by his teammates" Head Coach Ian Clerihew said. "Hugo has a big personality and is a wonderful teammate."

Ian Alvarez, a freshman from Bellville, Texas earned the Golden Boot. The Golden Boot is given to the player who has scored the most goals. Alvarez, who was named the SCAC Newcomer of the Year, netted four goals in his first season as a Celt.  

"All these guys embody what we want from our student-athletes" Clerihew said. "Tom, Felipe, Hugo and Ian all represent our team in the areas of Commitment, Respect, Effort and Humility. I can not say enough positive things about each one of them."
