Celts Clutter 2021 All-Conference Team

Men's Soccer cluttered the 2020-2021 All-SCAC team, as seven Celts earned honors. UST showed off their young talent as well, landing four players on the All-Freshman team. In addition to picking up All-SCAC second team honors, Ian Alvarez headlined for the Celts being named the Newcomer of the Year.

Ian Alvarez, a first-year striker from Bellville, Texas, led all first-year players and St. Thomas with four goals (tied for third in the SCAC) and points with eight (tied for eighth in the SCAC) in leading the Celts to the program's first-ever SCAC Tournament Championship fixture. Alvarez also finished tied for second in the SCAC with two game-winning goals on the season. His 0.36 goals-per-game average was best among first-year players and ranked him sixth across all players in the SCAC. Alvarez is the first player in program history to earn SCAC Newcomer-of-the-Year honors. He also was selected to the All-SCAC Second team.

Tom Hultsch, a senior from Luneburg, Germany and Rodrigo Lazo, a freshman from Katy, Texas have been named All-SCAC First team. Both Celts anchored a defense that led the conference in shutouts (6) and helped UST advance to the SCAC Championship game. This was the second consecutive year that Hultsch tabbed first-team honors. As for Lazo, he was the only freshman to receive first-team honors and ranked top three in multiple statistical categories after his inaugural season as a Celt.

Luis Bencomo, Gabe Salako and Fabrizio Policastro were named All-SCAC Honorable Mention. With each Celt manning a different position on the field, UST showed strength in every aspect of their game. Salako, who was named SCAC Offensive Player of the Week, led the team in points (8).

A quarter of the All-SCAC Freshman team were Celts as Juan Gomez, Dany Ramirez, Omar Blanco and Rodrigo Lazo received honors. Each of the four freshman made winning plays throughout the season which ultimately landed UST in the SCAC Championship game.
