Celts Drop a Heartbreaker in SCAC Tournament Final

Men's Soccer fell in the SCAC Tournament Final to Centenary College in penalty kicks.

The first half opened with the Gents immediately pressing the Celts. Goalkeeper Rodrigo Lazo came up with a huge save at the 15th minute to keep the game scoreless. Both teams continued on, playing aggressive on the offensive end, having multiple off target shots. The Celts first and only look on goal of the half, came at the 39th minute when Joshua Lockhart rippled a shot toward goal, forcing the Gents goalkeeper to make the save. The game went into the half scoreless with the Celts having recorded six shots, five corners and a save.

The second half mirrored the first with the Celts being the aggressors on offense early. Dany Ramirez had his first look on goal at the 62nd minute, forcing Centenary's goalkeeper to make his first save of the half. The Gents continued to pressure the Celts defense with a series of off target shots at the 68th minute.  Agustin Banos challenges the Gents goalkeeper with two back-to-back shots on goal in the span of two minutes, but was never able to capitalize. After 90 minutes of play, both teams remained scoreless and headed into extra time. Lazo yet again made an important save at the 96th minute to keep the game even at zero, eventually sending the game into penalty kicks.

After a hard-fought match the Celts would go on to lose in penalty kicks, 5-3.

This marks the end of the 2020-2021 season for UST Men's Soccer. After storming through their first SCAC Tournament, hopes are high for next fall when they return to the pitch.
