Celts and Crusaders draw, 2-2

Celts and Crusaders draw, 2-2

Men's Soccer came out with a 2-2 draw after a rainy match with the University of Dallas.

The Celts dominated the start the first half as they obtained possession and applied pressure on the Crusaders consistently for the first 15 minutes. Momentum shifted as UDallas' second shot was able to sneak past the Celts keeper to give the Crusaders the 1-0 advantage midway through the first half. The Celts kept fighting and in the 34th minute, senior Tom Hultsch was able to net a goal off a corner from Kelvin Cardona, knotting things up heading into the break.

As the weather persisted, both teams searched for the tiebreaking goal.  Midway through the second half, Jose Umana was able to find the back of the net off a skillful free kick. Umana's 65th minute goal was shot underneath a Crusader wall from 18 yards out.

Throughout the rest of the half, the Celts and the Crusaders collided with aggressive play. After five yellow cards and a red card, UST found themselves with a one-man advantage for the remainder of the contest. However, late in the second half the Crusaders were awarded a penalty kick which they would sink to even things up. As the game spilled over into extra time, UST maintained control with their attacking nature. After a hard-fought 20 minutes, UDallas was able to escape without surrendering a goal.

The Celts will return the pitch Wednesday as they host Schreiner University.
