Career Week For Parsons Garners Numerous Achievements and Awards

After shutting down the McMurry Warhawks in baseball's home opener, starting pitcher Chris Parsons had an outstanding week garnering numerous awards and achievements.

Parsons was untouchable on the mound in the Celts' 3-0 victory over McMurry last weekend. He allowed just one hit and struck out 11 batters in eight innings of work. Parsons didn't allow a single walk and has yet to allow a single run through his opening 15 innings of action this season.

February 20th/21st: Parsons Earns SCAC Pitcher & D3Baseball Team of the Week Nod

Chris Parsons of the University of St. Thomas, a senior right-handed pitcher from Seven Lakes High School in Katy, Texas, has been named the SCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played from Monday, February 13 through Sunday, February 19.

However, the awards didn't stop there as Chris' efforts drew national attention, specifically from D3baseball.com. The Team of the Week is D3baseball.com's weekly honor roll, in its twelfth season of recognizing the top performers at each of nine positions from the previous week. Players are selected from nominations from their school's sports information directors. Chris Parsons was named to the first Team of the Week of the 2023 season.

This is the first time the University of St. Thomas has had a baseball player named to the D3Baseball team of the week since baseball joined NCAA Division III this season.

"It is momentous for our program to be named to the D3 Team of the Week," Chris Parsons said. "While it is a personal honor to be a part of this, I will never be on the field alone. The trust I have for the coaching staff and the guys on the field is what allows me to perform how I need to."

February 23rd: Parsons Records 100th Career Strikeout as a Celt

Baseball opened up its three-game series against Belhaven this past Thursday night. On the mound for the Celts was Chris Parsons. Parsons went 6.1 innings for St. Thomas and notched seven strikeouts. On his sixth strikeout, he tabbed his 100th as a Celt. Playing in just 15 games, Parsons is the fastest pitcher to reach this milestone. The Celts also won the game and the series 3-0, as their record improved to 8-2 on the season.

"Chris had a phenomenal outing last week. Playing behind a guy who goes right at the opposing team is a lot of fun. Chris has settled into his starting role very well," Head Baseball Coach David Wood added. "These honors are well deserved and we look forward to seeing him continue his success, and how our team will feed off it too!"
