HOUSTON, TX- UST Thomas men's tennis team kicked off its spring season with a clutch 4-3 win over LeTourneau for their home opener.
In doubles play, the Celts secured an early advantage with Hunter Kemball Cook and Sawyer White earning a 6-4 victory. However, LeTourneau claimed the remaining two doubles matches, as Wilson Salazar and Pooya Tork fell 6-2, and Raja Pandya and Steven Kuang dropped a close 7-6 (7-1) battle in a tiebreaker.
Moving into singles, St. Thomas took control of the match. Raja Pandya delivered a thrilling comeback win, overcoming LETU Fernando Vasquez 2-6, 6-2, and sealing the victory with a 14-12 tiebreaker. Pooya Tork followed with a 6-3, 6-4 win, while Wilson Salazar dominated his opponent with a commanding 6-1, 6-0 performance. Sawyer White added another point for the Celts, winning 7-5, 6-4.
Despite a strong effort, Steven Kuang fell 6-4, 6-1 against LETU's Zachary Farris, and Hunter Kemball Cook battled to a third set but ultimately fell 2-6, 7-6 (5), 5-10 in super breaker for the third set.
