Celts Drop Non Conference Matchup Against Concordia

Celts Drop Non Conference Matchup Against Concordia

The University of St. Thomas Celts lost a tough battle against the Concordia Tornados this Sunday afternoon 3-2.

Concordia set the tempo in the first half, quickly netting two goals in the 24th minute and quickly again in the 29th minute. Shaken up a little, the Celts returned the pressure and managed to earn a penalty kick in the 41st minute, where #27 Grace Carmichael slotted the ball into the back of the net just before the first half concluded.

The Celts started the second half strong, and earned a corner kick in the 54th minute where a loose ball was put in the back of Concordia's net by one of their own defenders. The 2-2- scoreline was held for quite some time, and the Celts had a few promising attacks that they were just not able to put away to seal the deal. In the 78th minute, the Tornado's forward slipped one past the Celts and finalized the game score 3-2. The Tornados out-shot the Celts 18-15, and prevailed.

Coach Nick Morrison said he is still content with the girls' work ethic, but clearly disappointed in the result. He's happy with the way the girls are performing and hopes to work on a few details before heading into the next game on Friday the 23th, against Trinity in San Antonio.
