Women's Soccer Drops Out of Conference Matchup with Sul Ross

Tonight at Houston Sports Park the The University of St. Thomas Women's Soccer team fell 3-1 to the Sul Ross Lobos.

The Celts started the first half strong, firing away a few shots, forcing saves, and earning corner kicks. Despite their chances and strong attempts, the Celts were unable to put away any goals during the first half. As for the Lobos, they fired away an equal amount of shots and were also unable to put any behind UST goalkeeper Carmen Lozada and her defense. The Celts defense held their own during a tough and strong first-half battle.

During the second half of play, both squads brought the heat. In the 54th minute, Celts conceded a goal, quickly accompanied by another goal in the 59th minute. While the Celts were down 2-0, sophomore midfielder Emily McCoy slammed one past the keeper from the outside of the penalty area, showing her speed in the 79th minute. This brilliant goal was assisted by left-back Naveah Martinez. McCoy's goal gave the Celts the momentum they needed to fight even harder, but a few minutes later McCoy's second goal-scoring attempt was flagged offside by the linesman. Just as the game was about to conclude, the Lobos sealed another great strike to make the final score 3-1.

Despite a close attempt at shots on goal, the Lobos led the game with 7 shots on goal in comparison to the Celts 5 shots on goal. The Lady Celts fought as hard as always but were unable to prevail this one.

This Saturday at Houston Sports Park once again, the Celts will recoup and take on the McMurry War Hawks with a 7 pm kickoff. Come out and support your lady Celts!
