
Houston, Texas – In a rare, out-of-conference late-season tournament, the Celts showcased resilience and determination in a thrilling five-set match against Hardin-Simmons, ultimately emerging victorious with set scores of 25-23, 18-25, 21-25, 25-23, and 16-14. The win elevates UST's overall record to 11-13.
In the first set, the Celts started strong, holding the lead for most of the game. Hardin-Simmons fought back to tie it at 13-13, but the Celts stayed composed and pulled ahead to secure the set 25-23. Set two saw Cowgirls storm out of the gate, creating a gap the Celts could not close. St. Thomas fell short despite a good effort as Hardin-Simmons took the set 25-18.
The third set was a fierce battle with constant lead changes. The Celts built a narrow 13-11 lead, but Hardin Simmons rallied and ultimately claimed the set 25-21. Refusing to back down, the Celts fought back in the fourth set, establishing an early advantage. Despite a late surge from Hardin Simmons, the Celts closed out the set 25-23 to force a fifth.
The deciding set was a thriller, with the Celts' energy keeping them ahead at 7-3. Hardin Simmons managed to tie it up at 14-14, but the Celts' focus remained unshaken as they clinched the set 16-14, sealing the match win.
Audrey Cataline led the offensive charge with 21 kills, adding 18 digs. Alexis Bodunrin followed closely, contributing 16 kills and 16 digs. Kendall Howard set up her teammates skillfully, dishing out 27 assists and two aces, while Kara Spice was relentless on defense, racking up 31 digs.
