The University of St. Thomas volleyball team traveled to Sherman, TX, for a conference match against the Austin College Kangaroos but fell short in straight sets. The match set scores were 22-25, 18-25, and 19-25, dropping the Celts to a 7-8 overall record and 2-2 in SCAC play.
The first set was a tightly contested battle with lead changes throughout before the teams found themselves locked at 22 apiece. However, the Roos claimed the last 3 points of the set and a 25-22 first set win. Austin College's energy carried into the second set and jumped to an 18-10 lead. Despite the deficit, UST fought back and eventually closed the gap to 19-17, but the Celt's early hole was too much to overcome, and AC took the 2nd set 26-18. Set three mirrored the first two, with Austin College starting strong again. The Celts struggled to find a rhythm throughout the match and couldn't overcome early deficits in any sets.
Leading for the Celts was Alexis Bodunrin who registered 10 kills. Austin College seemed focused on stopping the Celts' leader, Audrey Cataline; for the most part, they successfully neutralized her. Freshman Ariana Willis continued to make her mark with 5 kills and 4 digs. Defensively, Kara Spice led the charge again with 15 digs, supported by Kendall Howard with 11 and Ally Peters with 8 digs. Mia Medina and Howard recorded 14 and 11 assists, respectively.
