After a rough Friday in Sherman, TX, the UST volleyball team traveled to Shreveport, LA, looking for a win. They ended up getting two! Due to a scheduling mishap, the Celts had to play Centenary twice in one day on their home court. St. Thomas came ready to play, and before the day was over, they had won 6 straight games and two matches. The wins improved the Celts' record to 9-8 overall and 4-2 in SCAC play.

Match 1 Recap

The Celts set the tone early, quickly built a 10-4 lead, maintained control, and won the first set 25-12. The second set was a much closer contest, tied at 14-14 before the Celts went on a crucial 6-2 run to claim the set 25-21. The third set was also tight early, tied 8-8 before the Celts went on an impressive 16-point run to take the set 25-9 and the match 3-0.

Leaders for the first match included Alexis Bodunrin with 11 kills, Audrey Cataline added 10 kills, and senior Laynee Beam contributed 6. Defensively, Kara Spice recorded 19 digs, and Mia Medina added 7 of her own. The Celts also tallied an impressive 40 assists in the match.

Match 2 Recap

After a short break, the Celts returned to the court for the second match, continuing their dominance in another 3-0 sweep. The second match was slightly closer, with set scores of 25-18, 25-11, and 25-15. However, the 2nd match saw a great team effort as ten Celts got into the offensive action with at least one Kill, led by junior Karrington Kays 9 kills. Always reliable sophomore Alexis Bodunrin added 8 kills. Sophomore Sydney Speer, freshman Madison Presley, and Laynee Beam each had 4 kills. Defensively, Kara Spice recorded another 17 digs to add to her team-leading 304. Freshman Ariana Willis got into the dig action with 8 of her own.
