Celts Fall Short at Colorado College

After traveling to Colorado for their first conference match, St. Thomas volleyball fell short against Colorado College. The Celts struggled to find their rhythm and adjust to the altitude throughout the match, resulting in an 18- 25, 23- 25, and 14-25 three-set loss to a strong CC team. The loss drops UST to 5-7 on the year and 0-1 in the conference.

In the first set, UST kept it close until the Tigers found enough space to get comfortable and take the first set 26-18. Set 2 started like the first until the Celts pushed ahead 18-14 and looked like they were going to take control. However, the Tigers grabbed the next three points to close the gap and eventually an emotionally important second set 25-23. It looked like UST was going to use the 2nd set loss as an energy boost when they jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the 3rd set. Colorado College maintained their composure to immediately even the score at 6-6. With the score even at 10 apiece, CC went on a 12-2 run to take total control and a 25-14 victory.

The three-set loss showed on the stat sheet as no Celt recorded more than 6 kills. St. Thomas' always reliable defense was once again led by Kara Spice with 12 digs.
