Volleyball opened up their four-game conference slate with a five-set thriller against Austin College. The 'Roos would defeat the Celts after taking the final two sets.
The Celts would find themselves down early after dropping the opening set 25-14. However, this sluggish start would quickly be avenged in the second set as St. Thomas would steal the set 25-23.
With momentum shifting towards the Celts, they would take off in the third set, quickly jumping out to an 11-4 lead. With a combination of stellar offense and scrappy defense, St. Thomas would hold onto this lead and take a one set advantage heading into the fourth.
This set would come down to the wire as both teams would be knotted up at 20 apiece. A 5-1 run to close the game from Austin College would be enough to lift them past the Celts and force a deciding fifth set.
Despite St. Thomas jumping out to a 3-0 lead, seven unanswered Kangaroo points would grant Austin College the advantage. They would eventually shut the door on the Celts, taking the final set 15-7.
