It was Senior Day in the Jerabeck Activity and Athletic Center as Rebecca Estrada, Kaylyn Latin, Emily Jaroszewski and Kelsie Walker were honored.
Game One: UST-3 AC-1
The Celts opened up their doubleheader with the Austin College Kangaroos with four hard-fought sets, all of which were within five points or less.
The first set opened up with Austin College having the upperhand until a Laynee Beam kill gave the Celts the 15-14 advantage. UST would capitalize on their momentum and cruise to a 25-20 victory.
The second set started off with the same energy as the first as both teams were neck and neck for the entirety of the set. UST would even things up at 24 but two unanswered points from the 'Roos would knot the contest up at one.
In a huge set three, the Celts found themselves down 22-16. They would strom back with two consecutive four-point rallies to even things at 24 a piece. Emily Jaroszewski would leave her mark by recording a kill on a Kangaroo error to secure the 2-1 lead.
The deciding set was in favor of the Celts as they raced out to a quick 15-9 lead. Austin College wouldn't go away that easy, answering with six straight points to tie things up at 15. However, the Celts would string together their own run to take a 22-16 lead. After Austin College clawed back into the contest with hopes to spoil UST's lead, Elizabeth Easly would come off the bench and deliver the final blow to give the Celts their sixth win of the season.
Allysa Ajlouny and Alaina Lanik would spark the Celts offense with 14 and 12 kills, respectively. Kelsie Walker would dish out a game-high 31 assists to compliment her three service aces. On the defensive end, Kaylyn Latin would yet again record a game-high 36 digs.
Game Two: UST-0 AC-3
The Celts didn't have the start that they had imagined as Austin College was able to rattle off seven-consecutive points late in set one. This run would evidently be the turning point as the Lady 'Roos were able to steal set one 25-23
A slow start in set two would plague the Celts as they would fall behind by nine points. They would never recover from this deficit and would give Austin College to 2-0 advantage.
Heading into the deciding set, UST would come out swinging, trading blows with the Lady 'Roos for the first half of the set. After AC was able to construct a 9-2 run, the Celts would lose momentum and drop the final set of the match.
Alaina Lanik would record 12 kills to go along with her team-high 22 digs. Lauren Arthur would produce 11 kills while hitting .455.
The Celts will play in their final doubleheader of the season next weekend when they travel to Kerrville to challenge Schreiner University.
