Head Coach Keanne Burt picked up her 100th career win in today's sweep over the Centenary College Ladies. The Celts dominated the contest winning 3-1 and 3-0.
Game One: UST-3 Centenary-1
UST Volleyball didn't open up their series with Centenary College the way they expected, dropping set one 25-14. The Ladies were able to string together multiple bursts of offense to drain the Celts' energy early. However, UST would bounce back by taking the match's closest contested set 26-24. In what seemed to be a comfortable lead for the Celts was quickly in danger as Centenary would storm back to tie the contest at 24-24. After two straight errors from the Ladies, UST was able to squeak by and even the count at one a piece. As both teams fought to gain the advantage in set three, UST's offense would eventually propel them to snag this game. After trading blows for the first 12 points of the set, the Celts would rattle off 10 straight points to crush the momentum of Centenary. As UST tried to close the door on the Ladies, they would heavily rely on their defense. They put together four blocks in set four, all of which occurred in a seven-point span. On their last leg, Centenary rallied together three straight points to threaten the Celts lead, but a Laynee Beam kill would claim a UST victory.
Kaylyn Latin would yet again lead the Celts defensively with 18 digs. Not far behind her was Alyssa Ajlouny with 15 digs complimenting her five kills. Emily Jaroszewski came up big for UST with eight block assists and one solo block. She also tallied six kills herself. Trinity Atkins led the Celts offensively with seven kills and two solo blocks.
Game Two: UST-3 Centenary-0
After four competitive sets in game one of the doubleheader, The Celts came out fired up and determined to earn the weekend sweep. After the first two points, UST never trailed in the first set of game two. They would construct six points in a row capped off by a Lauren Arthur kill to widen their margin and cruise to a 25-14 victory. The Ladies had no answer for the Celts both offensively and defensively. UST dominated set two due to a pair of runs that took the life out of Centenary. The Celts would have their largest margin of victory of the series in this 25-10 second set. With the weekend sweep in their sights, they stepped on the gas pedal to blow past Centenary and take the match 3-0.
Alaina Lanik had a game-high 13 kills hitting .448 on the day. Ajlouny again was efficient pitching in seven kills and 13 digs. The defending SCAC Backrow Player of the Year continued to shine as Kaylyn Latin led all players with 18 digs. Kelsie Walker dished out 19 assists in today contest and recorded 11 digs to help the Celts advance to 4-0.
